I have been in the financial advising business for 23 years. Along the way, I’ve worked with and in competition against various advisors of all forms from banks, brokerages, wholesalers, wirehouses and independents.
In my experience, I’ve found all of the above roles consist of both great and terrible advisors and everything in between. But just like the guy who finishes in last place at medical school and is still called a doctor, they are all typically grouped as advisors. Many have fancy titles with letters behind their names that mean nothing to the typical consumer. So as a consumer, how do you find the best fit, and what should you look for?
